Aspen is the ski town for celebrities and expert skiers alike. To properly ski
Aspen, you have four separate ski mountains and almost 5,000 acres served by 40
lifts to conquer – Snowmass, Aspen, Aspen Highlands
and Buttermilk (home of the Winter X-Games).
Snowmass is by far the biggest of Aspen's skiing with 3,010 acres of wide open
terrain from the Big Burn on the summit with spectacular views of Aspen's Maroon
Bells to gorgeous aspen tree glades. For families, Snowmass has a state of the
art Children's Tree House center for ski and snowboard camps and fun activities.
The Village at Snowmass offers several lodging options from condos to hotels
including the swank new Viceroy Hotel. If you prefer condominium lodging,
The Snowmass Club has nicely appointed townhouses, and the concierge will stock
your pantry and refrigerator prior to your arrival.
Aspen's main mountain emanating from town is nicknamed Ajax. This Aspen Mountain
is served by a beautiful Silver Queen gondola and has classic ski trails with
terrific views as you descend into town. Downtown Aspen, a lively western ski
town, has the finest ski hotels, St Regis, Hotel Jerome, and Little Nell, and an
avalanche of trendy Aspen restaurants. More legendary than Aspen’s ski
slopes is the après ski in downtown Aspen. The Aspen shopping scene is another
distraction from the ski slopes - picutre Prada, Gucci, Coach and all the top
boutiques.
Aspen Highlands offers challenging terrain from the summit, but sublime lodging
in the Aspen Highland Ritz Carlton at the base.
Buttermilk is the smallest of the Aspen Skiing foursome, but it has gained huge
popularity among free skiers and riders as the host of the annual Winter X-Games
every January, so the big ski celebs roll into Aspen for their televised
showdown on snow - taking place on some of the best terrain park elements, skier
and boarder cross courses, and superpipe in ski country.
