Keystone is great choice for families among the Vail resort collection, with a
pedestrian ski village by the slopes, and a swift gondola from the base,
gorgeous on mountain views and over 3,000 acres of mostly well-groomed pleasant,
ego- pleasing terrain. Keystone offers trails for every ski level plus
significant snowmaking, and fine on mountain dining at Der Fondue Chessel and
the Alpenglow Stube - the finest alpine high elevation dining in the US (which
can be reached by gondola for non-skiers).
Keystone really does have terrain for everyone, beginners can explore the entire
mountain, there’s top to bottom easy routes on each peak which is unusual in
high elevation. Dercum Mountain, the main mountain emanates from River Run
Village via Gondola. Trails like Frenchman, Wild Irishman and Flying Dutchman
are big fun runs on the front that bring you back to the base village. The
Outpost and Outback – the highest at 11,980’, offer more challenge but still a
blue square intermediate run off each of these northern peaks.
While there isn't anything particularly challenging at Keystone, there is over
3,000 acres of long well-groomed runs, plus 500 acres reserved for
for experts above tree line for a high alpine experience (just $10 a ride) to
North and South Bowl and Independence Bowl. You can also hike for free to this
in bounds patrolled snowy natural terrain which brings you back through glades
to the resort groomed terrain and lifts.
For après ski, you can keep skiing, Keystone has Colorado's largest night skiing
operation, or head to the villages - River Run, Mountain House and Keystone
Village. Keystone has a plethora of family activities – including free
activities each afternoon – Kidtopia for kids so parents can enjoy Keystone’s
après ski bars and dining, or the spa and hot tub at your condo. There is also
family-oriented tubing, bungee jumping, Adventure Point, and a Snow Fort. At
Keystone, kids 12 and under ski and stay free on 2 or more night packages.
